Five Conditions of Turkish Nouns

The Turkish noun can be in 5 conditions.

These conditions are formed by adding suffixes to the root word according to Vowel Harmony and consonant change. So the vowels of the suffix match the final vowel of the root word as well as the first letter of the suffixes match the last letter of the root word.

Root word: (Nominative): The root word, which carries no suffix. Ev: house Istanbul’da ev almışlar. They bought a house in Istanbul.

Specific Object - (Accusative): -i/-ı/-u/-ü - The Accusative is the Direct Object of a Verb - it can be translated in English as (the). evi - [ev-i] - the house (obj.).. evi çok beğendim. I liked the house a lot.

Movement Towards - (Dative): -a/-e - The Dative is the Case of Movement Towards - it can be translated as - to., towards..in English. - eve - [ev-e] - to/towards the house.. eve gidiyorum. I am going home/)to house).

Static Position (Locative): -da/-de or -ta/-te - according to Consonant change. - The Locative can be translated as - in.. on.. at.. in English. - evde - [ev-de] - in/on/at the house.. evde kaldık. We stayed at home.

Movement Away from - (Ablative): -dan/-den or -tan/-ten - according to Consonant change. - The Ablative can be translated as - from.. off, out of… in English. - evden - [ev-den] - from/off, out of… the house.. evden geliyorum. I am coming from home.
